I would ask you the same question.  Why do you not fear God?  Why do you not recognise Him for who He is and give him the adoration, praise and reverence His awesomeness demands?  Perhaps you find it easy not to do so because you find it easier to blind your eyes to His presence than acknowledge Him.  If everything around you was literally singing out praise to God or we literally saw His acts of judgement on a daily basis wouldn't you have a different perspective?  Yet we can clearly see the work of the Creator in nature around us (if we open our eyes) and the ongoing occurance of natural disasters should be a reminder of the frailty of life and the judgement to come.

God has not yet carried out the Final Judgement because of His mercy and love towards us. But His patience will one day come to an end.  Do not let this very tenderness towards you lull you into a false security and prevent you from humbling yourself before Him. He is God and He is to be feared.

I thought the following extract from an interview with Jordan Belfort (jailed Wall Street broker toruned motivational speaker) in a recent Times Magazine was very pertinent.

"The problem on Wall Street is this" he says, "You're not creating anything.  There's no satisfaction.  The only barometer you have is money.  And money has no meaning.  So what do you do?  You try to attach meaning to the money by buying possesions."  So, the journalist continues, Thats the catch.  If you want to make money, you have to train yourself to be obsessed with money.  Then life will begin to lose its meaning.

Solomon in Ecclesiastes observes that;

'For what has man for all his labour and for the striving of his heart with which he has toiled under the sun?  For all his days are sorrowful, and his work burdensome: even in the night his heart takes no rest.  This also is vanity.'

'All the labour of man is for his mouth and yet the soul is not satisfied.'

'He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance with increase.'

I think perhaps the main question I would have is "Why me"?  Why did God set His love upon me, choosing me from before time began to be His adopted son?  I know I've done nothing to deserve it, I know my life is often a mess of sin, yet God knew all that and still said "Jonathan, I will claim you as my own.  My son will die on the cross to purchase your forgiveness from sin". 

What a total blessing is that!

Death itself is unnatural - that is why it is feared so much.  Death is entirely the result of sin - had Adam and Eve not sinned they would still be alive today.   Death and the (un)natural decay of ALL OUR minds and bodies that takes place beforehand is a punishment from God for our sin.  Death is the passing of our souls from 1 existence to another.

Can death ever be good?  Perhaps you see death as the end, a task to be endured before you are gone forever to be no more.  In this light you may say that death is good, a relief from your present existence.  Perhaps from the opposite side you enjoy life so much now, you want to prolong your life to gain maximum pleasure.

But, if you die without first ackowledging God as your Creater and Jesus Christ as your Lord, you will not have a good death.  Whilst death may be the punishment we all receive for our sin, for you this will only be the begininng.  The Bible and Jesus are clear that you will go to Hell, a place completely seperate from God and therefore seperate from every good thing that you have known.  This is a place of eternal torment and suffering - your worst nightmare.

The only hope for a good death is to acknowledge your guilt and need of a Saviour then to trust in Jesus and His death alone to pay your debt to God.  The glories of heaven will then await - an eternity spent in the very presence of God where no bad thing will ever be found.
